Using the Wisdom from the Open and Undefined Centers in Human Design

We are driven by what we don’t have in our chart

Human Design is an incredible tool for learning about yourself and the people around you.

While understanding our defined energy is important, arguably understanding the white space in our charts is the more valuable skill. In traditional Human Design teachings, all white space is considered the places where we “go to school.”

Taking the time to understanding your open and undefined centers will lead to deepened awareness of yourself.

Human Design and the personal development space collide in the white spaces in our chart.

Where our “blocks” and “limiting beliefs” stem from are the white spaces in our charts. Anything that is not filled in color is inconsistent. White space feels everything from the auras surrounding it (this is why Reflectors are so sensitive).

Energy taken from external sources is felt and amplified.

Any energy center that is not colored in is considered undefined or open (undefined centers have small flecks of red or black dormant gates, while open centers have no defined energy at all) and therefore this open space holds potential for learning and wisdom because it is open to the spectrum of life.

We’re driven to get what we don’t have.

If you look at your chart versus your friend’s or your partner’s chart, I bet they will have gates and energy centers that “complete” your own personal chart. It’s simple mechanics. We’re driven to experience energy we do not hold.

We are deeply attracted to what we don’t have, it drives us to improve, it drives us forward but we can’t let the quest for what we don’t have overtake us, we can’t let it diminish us, or let it turn off our light.

When we are driven by the mind (which is an illusion, we never have control) we can get caught up operating out of a lack mentality.

This is what fuels rampant consumerism, this drive to fill this void, this need to be externally validated that will never stop until we learn to work within our own internal framework.

Our wisdom comes from an ability to accept our own humanity.

The wabi-sabi. We begin to stop the hemorrhaging when we learn to accept our own limitations. It’s not the same as giving up, but it is surrendering. Surrendering to the idea that maybe our mind doesn’t know all the answers. When we honor our body’s wisdom, we can see our gifts more clearly.

I love Human Design because it’s a framework that honors all the ways we can be smart.

School and social conditioning tamp down our inclinations for individualism, forcing us to be measured through testing. We have all these measures of success out there — success metrics however set up a system of winners and losers. We must widen the societal acceptance for success.

WE’RE AFRAID TO LOOK INTO OUR CONDITIONING BECAUSE WE’RE TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY FREAKED OUT ABOUT WHAT WE WILL FIND.

Inquiry into the white space in our chart can be done intuitively on our own or can be guided by a Human Design reader or professional. Seeing what you do and do not hold is incredibly freeing.

If you get the sense that you are prioritizing or trying to master skills that feel out of reach, it’s likely that you’ve been seduced by the white space in your chart. A Human Design reading can guide you back home. Human Design is a reintroduction or remembering of who you are.

Each of us is designed to be different. Are you ready to embrace your own gifts?
